DHCD Wins National Urban League Award
The National Urban League has selected the DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) as the winner of its prestigious “Partnerships for Opportunity Award.” DHCD was nominated by the Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL) and selected from over 100 other national, state, and/or local governmental nominees. DHCD will be amongst a very distinguished pair of winners, the Toyota Motor Corporation and the Annenburg Foundation in the corporate and foundation categories, respectively.
National Urban League President Hugh B. Price will present this award to recognize excellence in programs that exhibit the League’s primary mission—enabling African Americans to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights.
DHCD is being honored specifically for its Home Purchase Assistance Program (HPAP). Through HPAP and open-ended collaboration and partnership with GWUL, the department helped over 3,000 homeowners since 1994 realize the National Urban League goals of economic self-reliance and parity for African Americans.
The Partnerships for Opportunity Award will be presented at the 2002 National Urban League Conference “Power Breakfast” in Los Angeles, California. |
