First Annual DHCD Architectural Awards  

(Washington, DC) The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) held its first annual “Architectural Awards Program” on Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at DHCD’s headquarters. This ceremony commemorated the first annual event to recognize and award DHCD-funded projects that achieve architectural significance or prominence and encourage future developers to demonstrate a high level of architectural design. The projects were selected through DHCD’s competitive Request for Proposals process.

The 2004 Architectural Awards recognize three (3) projects from the following categories: Economic Development, Affordable Housing, and Community Facilities. The awardees and selected projects are as follows:

• Economic Development:
  
  Adams Morgan Lofts LLC and Eric Colbert & Associates for “Adams Morgan Lofts & Public Garage” (Designed by Eric Colbert & Associates and developed by Adams Morgan Development Company)
  
  Shalom Baranes Associates and Millennium Georgetown Partners for “The Georgetown Incinerator Redevelopment” (Designed by Shalom Baranes and developed by Georgetown Partners)
  
  
• Affordable Housing:
  
  Torti Gallas & Partners/CHK, Inc. and Stanton Road Housing, LLC for “Hillsdale Heights Townhouses” (Designed by Torti Gallas & Partners and developed by Stanton Road)
  
  SWA Architects and Totten Tower, LP for “Warder Totten Towers” (Designed by SWA Architects and developed by Totten Tower)
  
  
• Community Facilities:
  
  Wiebenson & Dorman Architects and Emmaus Services for the Aging for “Arthur S. Fleming Center” (Designed by Wiebenson & Dorman and developed by Emmaus).
  
  Mobius Design and Educational Organization for United Latin Americans (EOFULA) for “The Spanish Senior Center” (Designed by Mobius and developed by EOFULA)
