Marcus A. Williams joined the DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) in June 2013. In this position he serves as the Department's spokesperson when responding to media requests and stakeholder inquiries, has oversight of the strategic communications and marketing plans for the agency, staffs the DC Mayor and Department Head during events and media engagements related to housing and community development matters and is the Chair of the DHCD Communications Committee.
During his tenure with DHCD Mr. Williams has developed and implemented a successful social media strategy for the agency’s Twitter, Facebook and WordPress platforms, ensured that the agency is compliant with mandated reports and has begun developing a strategic communications/marketing plan for the FY 2014.
The Washington, DC native’s professional expertise include journalism, project management, campaign management, strategic communications planning and execution, event and protocol management, writing, editing and serving as spokesman. Mr. Williams’ communications experience spans over a decade and is broad and varied, including employers such as Booz Allen Hamilton, the President Obama Administration, U.S. House of Representatives, WTAJ-TV (CBS Affiliate), The Weather Channel, DC28-TV (now known as District 99) and a host of local, regional and national print publications.
Mr. Williams holds a Masters degree in Corporate Communications from Georgetown University, Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from The Pennsylvania State University and a professional certification in Strategic Communications Management from Ithaca College.
