Chief Program Officer
Nathan Simms has served as the Chief Program Officer for the Washington, DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) since August 2012. Mr. Simms’s primary responsibility is overseeing the agency’s programmatic and budgetary related activities for all program areas, including: Development Finance Division, Residential Community Services Division, Office of Program Monitoring, Portfolio Asset Management Division, and Property Acquisition and Disposition Division. He originally joined DHCD in October 2011 as the agency’s Housing Compliance Officer and Director of the Office of Program Monitoring.
Prior to joining DHCD, Mr. Simms spent over 10 years with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) specializing in the national preservation and recapitalization of affordable housing properties. During his time with the HUD, he received numerous awards including the Secretary of HUD’s Merit Act award.
Mr. Simms is a proud native of Washington, D.C. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Bowie State University, a Masters of Public Administration from American University’s Key Executive Leadership Program, and a graduate of HUD’s Emerging Leaders Program.
