The National Center for Housing Management (NCHM), on behalf of the DC Department of Housing and Community Development, offers a free online self-paced Property Management Training (PMT) Course that covers the following information:
- Building maintenance: guidance on planning for different types of maintenance (e.g. routine vs capital planning)
- Financial Management: understanding basic financial aspects of multiunit properties (e.g. sources of income, expenses, capital planning and budgeting)
- Community management: defining and creating a safe and engaged community
- Governance: overview of the legal and administrative aspects of managing a multiunit property (e.g. managing shared ownership as a cooperative)
The DHCD PMT Course is designed to educate owners of either multifamily buildings or Limited Equity Cooperatives’ (LECs) and condominiums, who need assistance in the overall management of their building. The course is not a nationally recognized certification.
