Mayor Gray, DOJ Assistant Attorney General Perez Join in 10th Annual DC Fair Housing Symposium

District agencies, non-profit, host educational forum for community members and advocates on Thursday, April 28.

(Washington, DC) –The DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the DC Office of Human Rights (OHR), and the Equal Rights Center (ERC) will host the District’s 10th Annual Fair Housing Symposium from 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday, April 28th. The event will be held at the True Reformer Building at 1200 U Street, NW.

10th Annual Fair Housing SymposiumHeld in conjunction with National Fair Housing Month and in celebration of the events’ 10th anniversary, this year’s theme is “One City, One Community.” The symposium is an educational forum for public and private fair housing advocates, community-based organizations, residential rental professionals, residential lending professionals, fair housing advocates, government and non-government direct service providers, and all those interested in learning more about fair housing.

DC Mayor Vincent Gray will deliver opening remarks and Tom Perez, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice will be delivering the keynote address.  The morning session will consist of a panel focused on the state of fair housing and current issues such as advocacy, legislation, discrimination statistics and the impact of regional issues on the District.  In the afternoon attendees will attend breakout sessions to discuss the various issues and communities affected by fair housing laws.  Each breakout session will be facilitated by a leader within that community who will report back to all attendees.
