Let's Talk Rent Control

Last Date:

Location:
1800 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE
Building:
DHCD Resource Center
Room:
First Floor Conference Room
Details:

The District of Columbia's rent control law sets limits on the amount and frequency of rent increases—and gives tenants the right to challenge them. But housing providers and tenants first need to know how the law operates, to include:

  • The seven types of increases
  • When increases are automatic versus approved “by petition"
  • The specific limitations on increases
  • The paperwork—and administrative process—required to oppose an increase
  • The penalties for invalid increases
  • The three “Cs”: rent ceilings, rent charged and rent concessions
