One goal of the DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is to ensure that District residents have housing that is not only affordable, but safe. It fulfills this mission in partnership with DHCD-funded community-based organizations (CBOs) in several ways:
- Providing loans and/or grants for home repairs to alleviate DC building code violations, fix health and safety concerns and make accessibility modifications, through our, Single Family Residential Rehabilitation Program (SFRRP) .
- Creating lead safe affordable housing for low-to-moderate income families with children under the age of six, through grants offered by the Lead Safe Washington (LSW) program.
- In conjunction with the DC Office on Aging (DCOA), providing preventative adaptations to reduce the risk of falls in the homes of qualifying seniors and adults with disabilities, through the Safe at Home program.
