Transforms Vacant Properties into Workforce Housing and Outdoor Green Spaces

(Washington, DC) – On Friday, December 15, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will launch “Vacant to Vibrant DC,” a new campaign designed to reactivate vacant spaces into vibrant, productive solutions that include workforce housing, creative green and play areas, and small business opportunities. The Mayor will be joined by At-Large Councilmember Anita Bonds, Ward 8 Councilmember Trayon White, and Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Brian Kenner.

“Vacant to Vibrant DC” is a six-step action plan that will reduce the city’s vacant property inventory. The multi-part solution includes opportunities for entities, including District Certified Business Enterprises, to transform properties into workforce housing and outdoor green spaces.

In September, the District was recognized for its multi-pronged approach to housing production and preservation, homeownership, and development of vacant properties when it was selected for the Urban Land Institute’s Larson Housing Policy Leadership Award.
