Lauren J. Pair, Esquire

Lauren J. Pair, Esq. was appointed as rent administrator by Mayor Bowser and was confirmed by the Council of the District of Columbia in July 2017. 

She is responsible for administering the Rental Housing Act of 1985.  Her office, the Rental Accommodations Division, regulates rental housing, including a rent stabilization program (commonly called rent control), petition and mediation processes, and eviction restrictions.  Lauren’s duties and responsibilities encompass adjudication, management and operations, compliance and enforcement, review and process, technical advice, and community outreach and planning.

Prior to her tenure as rent administrator, Lauren served for 11 years as the rental conversion and sale administrator and an interim manager for the Inclusionary Zoning and Affordable Dwelling Unit program.  Before her public service career with the District, Lauren practiced real estate development and contract law and clerked for the Honorable Sherrie L. Krauser of Prince George’s County, Maryland Circuit Court.

Lauren is a long-term District resident.  She is a Jackson-Reed High School (formerly Woodrow Wilson High School) graduate and earned and a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from Tufts University, a Master of Public Administration from the American University School of Public Affairs, and a law degree from the American University, Washington College of Law.
