Public Hearing on Anacostia Site
The DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is holding a public hearing on a property sale that will transform 2352, 2356, 2360 High Street SE in the Anacostia neighborhood of Ward 8 into affordable and market-rate condomiums.
Filing Annual and Vacancy Rent Increases
The District of Columbia's rent control law sets limits on the amount and frequency of rent increases—and gives tenants the right to challenge them. But housing providers and tenants first need to know how the law operates, to include understanding the process for preparing and filing annual adjustments of general applicability and vacancy increases.
The goal of the workshop is to help housing providers, as well as prospective and current tenants, understand these issues, and provide an opportunity to get their questions answered.
Nuts and Bolts of the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act
Tenant groups pursuing the purchase of their apartment buildings with the intention to convert them to cooperatives or condominiums can get financial and technical assistance, thanks to provisions under the District's Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA).
TOPA not only helps residents avoid displacement, but it helps them become homeowners. To make this happen; however, tenant groups must follow certain steps.

On Monday, September 24, DHCD-- in partnership with the DC Students Construction Trades Foundation and students in the- Academy of Construction and Design at IDEA Public Charter School-- unveiled DC’s newest tiny homes demonstration project. The public has several opportunities to tour the project and see Mayor Muriel Bowser’s vision for tiny home living, DC style. The two homes were built by high school students from the Academy of Construction and Design in Washington, DC and designed to demonstrate how new ideas of sustainability can be established as decent, affordable housing.
