(Washington, DC) - On February 27, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The purpose of the Act is to stimulate the economy with a focus on job creation and retention and investing in long term infrastructure. Specifically, the Act appropriated $1 billion in Community Development Block Grant—Recovery (CDBG-R) funds to states and local governments to carry out, on an expedited basis, eligible activities under the CDBG program. As the administrator of CDBG funds for the District of Columbia, the DC Department of Housing and Community Development received a CDBG-R grant in the amount of $4,896,122. The activities on which DHCD plans to use these additional funds are detailed in a draft substantial amendment to the Department’s Annual Action Plan for Fiscal Year 2009.
Copies of the Department’s draft substantial amendment are available at 1800 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, and can be downloaded below .
