Developer Proposes New Office Building along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE

The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has chosen Chapman Development, LLC of Reston, Virginia to develop the Big K Site at 2228 – 2252 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE.  The proposal submitted by the developer includes plans to construct a new office building that features commercial and retail space, as well as restore the existing historic houses on the site.  Chapman Development will be conducting a market study to help further refine the development concept.  Once this is completed, Chapman will engage the community for further input.

“We look forward to the development of the Big K site as a catalyst for reviving Historic Anacostia,” said DHCD Director Michael P. Kelly.

The property at 2228 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, could not be saved and was demolished in July.  DHCD recently completed the stabilization of the remaining properties on the site, which will allow the developer the time to complete pre-development activities.
