Single Family Residential Rehabilitation Program (SFRRP)

** The Single-Family Residential Rehabilitation Program (SFRRP) is specifically for residents of Washington, DC **

DHCD's Single Family Residential Rehabilitation Program (SFRRP) administers grants for roof repairs and/or modification to eliminate barriers to accessibility for persons with mobility or other physical impairments. DHCD offers the following home rehabilitation assistance program through its CBOs. The SFRRP provides grants to District homeowners to keep their homes accessible and safe, and applicants can receive a grant up to 50% of the appraised value of their home. To apply for assistance or receive more information, please contact one of the following CBOs: Single Family Residential Rehabilitation Program CBOs and review Eligibility/How to Apply.

Areas of Interest:

Roofing and Accessibility Grants

  • This provides complete replacement and repair of the exterior roof and gutters. This includes interior work (e.g. plumbing, mechanical, electrical, etc.) and excludes unattached structures.
  • The accessibility grants remove physical barriers and improve mobility. People with mobility or other physical impairments may be eligible for this grant.
  • To qualify for structural alterations including bathrooms, kitchens, ramps, stairs and stair lifts, walk-in showers, and walkways, applicants need a note from their doctor.
  • Emergency repairs for utilities and structural repairs to homes are approved by the DHCD Director.

How Does the Construction Process Work?

  • Pre-Construction Process: DHCD develops a scope of work, selects a licensed and certified contractor through the DC procurement process, and manages the construction.
  • Construction and Closing Process: All rehabilitation, roof replacement, and accessibility contracts are between the homeowner and the contractor. DHCD will pay the contractor on behalf of the homeowner. The homeowner does not pay the contractor. Construction will take place from January 1 through September 30 of the fiscal year in which the application is approved. Please note that the fiscal year begins on October 1 and ends on September 30.
