The Department of Housing and Community Development has made available an application for organizations seeking to become designated a District of Columbia Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO).
A CHDO is a private nonprofit, community based service organization whose primary purpose is to provide and develop decent, affordable housing for the community it serves.
The application provides an overview and outlines the requirements for the HOME Program CHDO Set-Aside. Being designated a CHDO is not a requirement for accessing HOME allocation funds, but it is a prerequisite to receiving funds assigned specifically for CHDOs. Becoming a CHDO makes a nonprofit eligible but does not guarantee funding.
For more information regarding the CHDO designation process please contact Johnette M. Powell, HOME Program Specialist, at (202) 442-7232.
